Let's get started!

Read&Write for Google Chrome™ provides support tools for the web and common file types accessed through Google Drive, including:

  1. Google Docs/Slides
  2. PDF
  3. ePub
  4. Kes (Kurzwell 3000 Files)

Note: If you are trialing Read&Write for Google Chrome, you will have access to all features for 30 days. After your trial expires, you will still have access to text-to-speech and translator for Google Docs and the web, but the Read&Write for Google Chrome premium features will only be available if you purchase a subscription.

To begin using Read&Write for Google Chrome, you must first add it to Chrome through the Chrome Web Store. This will install the Read&Write for Google Chrome extension to be used in Google Docs and the web, and the Read&Write for Google Chrome app to be used with ePubs, PDFs and Kes files. The extension and app will request to have access to your account. There will be two authorization screens. You must allow access to both in order to use.

Google Docs/Slides

When the Read&Write for Google Chrome extension is installed, you will see a tab with the purple puzzle piece icon Read&Write for Google Chrome™ enabled icon  whenever you open a Google Doc or edit in Google Slides

Disabled Toolbar

If you click on the tab, the Read&Write for Google Chrome toolbar will drop down for use. Click again to hide the toolbar.

Note: Read&Write for Google Chrome works with most web pages. If you find the floating toolbar does not appear or the purple puzzle piece icon is grayed out, then you are on a web page that does not support the use of Read&Write for Google Chrome.

PDFs, ePubs, and Kes files

The premium version of Read&Write for Google Chrome also supports for PDF, ePub, and Kes files in Google Drive. To use, simply double click on the file to have it open in the Read&Write for Google Chrome PDF Viewer.

If the file does not open in the Read&Write for Google Chrome PDF Viewer, it is either not set as the default app to manage your files, or it is not installed.
To set as default, click the systems Settings icon at the top right of the screen and select Settings. Then go to Manage Apps and scroll down to Read&Write for Google Chrome. Select Use by default. Problem Solved!

Use by Default

Note: If you do not want Read&Write for Google Chrome to be the default, you can still use it with any PDF, ePub, or Kes file. Simply right click on the filename and choose Open With and then select Read&Write for Google Chrome.
