Managing The Autolaunch And Extension Prompts Of Read&Write For Windows On Your Network

Read&Write for Windows 12.0.72 and above now offers new management options. You can easily control key settings.

These features are available:

  • Disable automatic Read&Write toolbar launch when Windows opens.
  • Turn off the prompt to install the Read&Write Desktop extension in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Access these settings within the ReadAndWrite.exe.config file. This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Texthelp\Read And Write 12. After modifying the file, deploy it across your network.

Switch off the autolaunch of the Read&Write toolbar when Windows opens.

  • Ensure Read&Write is closed.

  • Open the ReadAndWrite.exe.config file using NotePad.

  • Locate the line

<add key ="BlockLaunchOnStartup" value="0"/>

  • Change the value to 1

<add key ="BlockLaunchOnStartup" value="1"/>

  • Save the file.

If Read&Write has not been run before this value was changed, the computer will need to be restarted twice to allow the registry setting to be changed.

Changing this setting in earlier versions of Read&Write for Windows

If you’re using an earlier version, all you need to do is create an empty file and name it nolaunch.dat.  Deploy the nolaunch.dat file to C:\ProgramData\Texthelp\ReadAndWrite\ You will need to restart the machine a couple of times due to how Windows recognises software at startup.

Switch off the prompt to install the Support for Read&Write Desktop extension in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

  • Ensure Read&Write is closed.

  • Open the ReadAndWrite.exe.config file using NotePad.

  • Locate the line

<add key ="BlockSupportExtensionInChrome" value="0"/>

  • Change the value to 1

<add key ="BlockSupportExtensionInChrome" value="1"/>

  • Save the file.

Once this value has been changed, the user will not be prompted to install the Support for Read&Write Desktop.

Changing this setting in earlier versions of Read&Write for Windows

If you’re using an earlier version, all you need to do is create an empty file and name it noChrome.dat and place it in the user settings path (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Texthelp\ReadAndWrite\12). If you selected to place the users settings on a server, this will have to be placed in each user's folder in the location you specified.
