Read&Write for Google Chrome Improved Keyboard Accessibility

With improved accessibility you can open the Read&Write for Google Chrome toolbars and select features with your keyboard.

Web Toolbar

To open the Read&Write for Google Chrome web toolbar with your keyboard:

  • To focus on the Chrome Settings button Chrome menuClick the F10 button in Windows
  • Then use the Left Arrow key to focus on the purple puzzle piece icon

  • Once the purple puzzle piece is selected, hit the Enter key to open the Read&Write for Google Chrome web toolbar

Docs/Slides Toolbar

To open the Read&Write for Google Chrome Google Docs/Slides toolbar with your keyboard

  • Open a Google Doc or Slide and make sure your cursor is focused in the Google Doc or Slide
  • Click the Ctrl key once then release, then click the Down Arrow key to bring the toolbar down

(Note: Click the Ctrl and Down Arrow keys separately - not at the same time for this function)


Selecting a Feature from the Google Docs or Web Toolbar

Once either the web or Google Docs toolbar is open, you can then use either the Tab, Left Arrow, or Right Arrow key to scroll through the buttons

  • Use your Enter key to activate a feature once you select a function with the Tab key

You can now use your keyboard with Read&Write for Google Chrome in Google Docs, Slides and on the web with other Chrome keyboard shortcuts as listed in the Chrome Support article Keyboard shortcuts for Google Docs
