Using Read&Write for Google Chrome with a Keyboard

You can open Read&Write for Google Chrome and select features with your keyboard.

To open the Read&Write for Google Chrome web toolbar with your keyboard:

  • To focus on the Chrome Settings button Chrome menuClick the F10 button in Windows
  • Then use the Left Arrow key to focus on the purple puzzle piece icon

  • Once the purple puzzle piece is selected, hit the Enter key to open the Read&Write for Google Chrome web toolbar

Read&Write for Google Chrome Google Docs/Slides Toolbar

  • In Google Docs or Slides, if the purple puzzle piece tab appears, click the Ctrl key once then release, then click the Down Arrow key to bring the toolbar down

  • To set focus on the toolbar use Alt  Shift  K 
  • Use the right and left arrow keys to move the focus across the Read&Write for Google Chrome toolbar
  • Hit the Enter key to activate or turn off a feature
  • If using Speech, to Stop or Pause, please use Tab to choose either option
  • To set focus to the webpage, Google Doc or Slide the shortcut is CTRL Alt  Shift  Z 
    • To see other keyboard shortcuts for google docs use CTRL /

(Note: Click the Ctrl and Down Arrow keys separately - not at the same time for this function)


You can now use your keyboard with Read&Write for Google Chrome in Google Docs, Slides and on the web with other Chrome keyboard shortcuts as listed in the Chrome Support article Keyboard shortcuts for Google Docs
