If you try to read text in Word and it won't work or if Read&Write closes, this can happen after updates to Office are installed. In this case files used by Read&Write and Microsoft Word needs to be repaired. To do this:
- Close any programs that are open on your computer
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features
- Find Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs and click on Change
- Choose the Repair option, and click Continue
- Once your repair of Microsoft Office has completed, open Read&Write and use it to read your document.
For Network Admins
Read&Write needs a specific number of registry keys to be present so it can connect to Word. They are listed below:
Office XP (Typelib value is 8.2)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00020910-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} to {00020A02-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Office 2003 (Typelib value is 8.3)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00020910-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} to {00020A02-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Office 2007 (Typelib value is 8.4)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00020910-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} to {00020A02-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Office 2010 (Typelib value is 8.5)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00020910-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} to {00020A02-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
This needs to be done if a Microsoft Office Update has removed or changed these registry entries or as a result of the initial Office installation.
